Contreras Named Head Coach of St. Francis Swimming Program

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Former University of Pacific assistant coach and St. Mary's swimmer Adriana Contreras has been named the Head Swimming Coach at St. Francis High School, Athletic Director Mark McGreevy announced Friday.

"I am so excited and thankful for the opportunity to work with the St. Francis Swimmers and staff," said Contreras. "Everyone in the Troubie community has already been so welcoming and supportive. I can't wait to get the season started!"

Contreras is currently an assistant coach with DART Sacramento where she assists head coach Brian Nabeta in all aspects of the program including workouts, recruiting, communication and social media.

"We're very proud to announce Adriana Contreras as the next head swim coach at St. Francis Catholic High School," said McGreevy. "Coach Contreras impressed our committee with her expertise in the sport and her experience mentoring athletes at different levels, from novice to NCAA Division I swimmers.  Most importantly, given her character and background, it was clear to everyone that she's a solid mission-fit for the Troubadour Swim program."

Contreras came to Sacramento after two seasons with the University of Pacific men's and women's swimming programs where she served as the Director of Operations for the 2017-18 season and as an assistant coach for the 2018-19 season. The Tigers broke 12 school records, had an NCAA Zone Meet qualifier, 31 All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation awards and 20 MPSF All-Academic selections in 2018-19.

"Coach Contreras has quickly established a reputation as a rising star for her ability to communicate, her sincere investment in the holistic development of her athletes, and her capacity to guide her swimmers to realize their highest potential," said McGreevy. "She's a powerful role model for our students as she embodies our pillars of Faith, Excellence, Leadership, and Service.  We're pleased to welcome Adriana to the Troubadour Athletics family and are excited for this next chapter in the history of our cherished program under her leadership."

Contreras has also worked as the senior group coach for California Gold in Lodi, Calif., and with Tiger Aquatics as an age group coach from 2015-18.

She was selected to be an assistant coach with the USA Swimming National Diversity Camp in May 2019.

A native of Stockton, Contreras swam at St. Mary's High School and Cal-State East Bay. As a four-year member of the Saint Mary's Swim Team, she was named Most Valuable Swimmer four times and competed for The Swim Club of NorCal and Tiger Aquatics, earning Academic Honor Roll accolades.

She is completing her degree in Business Administration at Sacramento State.

Swimming season starts in February and there will be an interest meeting on January 13 at lunch in the gym for all returning swimmers and newcomers.
