St. Francis draws Saint Francis in NorCal opener

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Following its runner-up finish in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I tournament, St. Francis volleyball earned the No. 8 seed in the NorCal Regional open division, and will travel to top-seeded Saint Francis of Mountain View, the CIF announced Sunday. 

The Troubadours, winners of the Delta League, enter the regional opener with a 23-8 overall record. The Lancers, champions of the West Catholic Athletic League, are undefeated at 31-0 after Saturday's five-set win over Archbishop Mitty in the Central Coast Section title match.

St. Francis has reached the state title match twice, winning the championship in 2005. Saint Francis has 12 all-time NorCal titles, including nine state crowns. No. 2 seed Archbishop Mitty boasts three trips to the state title match since the inception of the Open division, with wins in 2016 and 2017.

In order of seeding, the eight NorCal entrants in the Open division are Saint Francis (Mountain View), Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills), San Ramon Valley (Danville), Sacred Heart (Atherton), Monte Vista (Danville) and St. Francis.
