Varsity wraps action at High Sierra Invite

RENO, Nevada – St. Francis varsity volleyball split its four Saturday matches at the High Sierra Invitational girls' volleyball tournament, hosted by Bishop Manogue Catholic High School. 

The Troubadours, which went undefeated through Friday's round robin, extended their overall win streak to six matches with a 25-18, 18-25, 15-13 battle with the host Miners in Saturday's early-morning action, then swept Galena by scores of 25-15, 25-19. St. Francis then lost a split-set rematch with Rocklin, 25-23, 23-25, 10-15 to close out the second round of pool play.

St. Francis then fell to Faith Lutheran in the first round of bracket play in sets of 27-25, 25-19. The Crusaders come off a 17-20 season in which they reached the state playoffs, only to fall in five sets to powerhouse Bishop Gorman.

No individual stats were available. The Troubies finished in a tie for 13th place in the 24-team tournament. Whitney won the overall title, beating host Bishop Manogue, 25-15, 25-17, in the finale.

St. Francis begins its Delta League schedule with a Tuesday triple header at Franklin. Match times are 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 from frosh through varsity. The next Troubadour home match is a non-league meeting with Oak Ridge on Thursday.
