Fifth-seeded St. Francis sweeps Day 1 in Reno

RENO, Nevada – St. Francis posted straight-set victories against Faith Lutheran, Turlock and Spanish Springs on the first day of the High Sierra Invitational varsity girls' volleyball tournament, held jointly at Bishop Manogue and Galena High Schools. The Troubadours are seeded fifth in the 24-team field, which broke into six four-team, round-robin groupings for Friday's portion.

St. Francis dispatched Faith Lutheran by scores of 25-21, 25-15; rolled past Turlock with 25-16, 25-17 set wins; then completed its Friday session with 25-20, 25-20 set scores against Spanish Springs. No individual stats were available.

The Troubies will now enter the second round of pool play at Bishop Manogue on Saturday morning. They face the host Miners at 9 a.m., square off against Galena at 11 a.m., then wrap up the morning session with a 1 p.m. match against fellow Sac-Joaquin Section power Rocklin in a rematch of their August 23 season opener.

The top six teams will advance to bracket play on Saturday afternoon, also held at BMCHS. St. Francis was one of six teams to go 3-0 in Friday's action, along with Rocklin, Whitney (Rocklin), University Prep (Redding), Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Rio Americano (Sacramento).
