JV Basketball Wins Folsom-Vista Classic; Cloninger Named MVP

FOLSOM, Calif. – Sophomore Sarah Cloninger scored eight points including four in the decisive fourth quarter as the St. Francis  junior varsity basketball team defeated McClatchy 38-35 to win the Folsom-Vista Classic. It was the second consecutive tournament victory for squad and sixth consecutive win.

"Sarah continues to get better and better," said Head Coach Gary Ender. "One of her big assets is she can defend anybody. She has the length, speed and quickness. She can get baseline to baseball faster than anyone else so she gets easy buckets for us better than anyone else. She get rebounds and free throws and is very unselfish."

St. Francis (9-1) jumped to a 15-9 lead in the first quarter as six players made baskets led by four points by Carolina Ingenito. The Troubies slowed down in the second with just three points, two coming on a Cloninger basket but led 18-13.

The Troubadours built the lead to 13 in the third but McClatchy fought back to take the lead in the fourth. But SF managed big baskets down the stretch, including two by Liz Rosendahl, who finished with seven points, and a pair by Cloninger.  Ingenito had seven points, averaging nine points a game in the tournament.

"We showed composure with a desire to finish the game," said Ender. "We want to be in a position to finish the game and they continue to mature as a team. It has been pretty awesome to watch."

Cloninger was named the tournament MVP while Rosendahl and Frankie Evers joined her on the all-tournament team.
