SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Haanya Niazi shot a prep-best one-over par 37 to lead the St. Francis golf team to a 206-251 win over Cosumnes Oaks. It was the third consecutive dual medalist accolade for Niazi and fourth on the season.
"I played really well and I am really excited to see how the rest of the season goes," said Niazi, who had previously shot 38 two times in a dual match. "I think my short game was really good day. I was recovering from some bad drives."
She opened with a double bogey on the first hole and bogeyed the last but mixed in two birdies and five pars to post her solid round.
"I am really proud of how I played," said Niazi.
St. Francis (5-0) posted the 45-shot win to extend their dual match win streak to 36 matches dating to the 2014 season.
The Troubadours placed their top five among the top six led by Niazi. Senior Nashla Aguero posted a two-over par 38 to finish second in the event to record her season-best score.
"I felt pretty good about my round," said Aguero. "It was not how I planned it to be but it was good.
Senior Ceci Fletcher was third overall on the team with a 41, while senior Amanda Siy had a 44 to finish fifth. Sophomore Justine Canio (pictured) shot a 46 to tie for sixth in her first career round.
"I was super excited and it was a fun, new experience," said Canio.
Freshman Julia Geer had a 52 to place ninth.
St. Francis will play in the second Delta League Center match on Monday at Wildhorse Golf Course in Davis at Noon.
