SF to host West Park at ARC to open section tourney

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis earned a No. 4 seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls' water polo tournament, and will host 13th-seeded West Park on Tuesday night at American River College. First sprint is 7 p.m.

The Troubadours enter the postseason with a 17-10 overall record, having earned a playoff spot by virtue of a second-place finish in the Delta League. The Panthers placed second in the Foothill Valley League with a 4-2 record to qualify for the postseason.

Goalkeeper Sophia Santsche-Chavez had enjoyed a monster junior season, logging 332 saves against 182 goals for glittering .646 average. Meanwhile on the offensive side, four Troubies have 50 or more points: junior Abigail Benavidez (53 goals, 23 assists), senior Ashlyn Brock (45 goals, 26 assists), junior Miranda Ferguson (33 goals, 25 assists) and junior Piper Brostrom (29 goals, 28 assists). Overall, St. Francis sits eighth in the SJS by MaxPreps, although that ranking includes an 8-2 exhibition win against River City.
