JV volleyball wins 14th-annual Stockton Classic

STOCKTON, Calif. – St. Francis swept Oak Ridge in straight sets to capture the 14th-annual JV/Sophomore Stockton Classic girls' volleyball tournament Saturday afternoon. The Troubadours split matches with Redwood and Chico in pool play, then swept Rocklin in the bracket semifinal before defeating the Trojans in the final at Lincoln High.

The junior varsity's team's title matches that of the SFHS frosh squad, which won its version of the Stockton Classic one week earlier. The 209 Volleyball-hosted event features dozens of schools from all sizes and divisions, with the largest programs converging at the Lincoln site.

The Troubies swept Redwood by scores of 25-20, 25-12, before falling in a split-set battle with Chico, 17-25, 25-19, 15-8. Still, the split was good enough to keep SF in the top bracket, in which it took down Rocklin, 25-16, 25-22. The Troubies then swept Oak Ridge in the finale, although exact set scores were not available.

The Stockton Classic action marks the second time St. Francis has defeated Oak Ridge in three meetings this year, and the third time the JV team has beaten Rocklin. The Troubadours return to action at home against Cosumnes Oaks on Tuesday as part of a tripleheader with frosh and varsity. The three match times are the usual 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the SFHS gym.
