St. Francis sweeps Franklin in Delta League opener

St. Francis sweeps Franklin in Delta League opener

EL GROVE, Calif. – Junior outside hitter Mila Stojakovic tallied a team-leading nine kills while junior libero Jackie Smith picked up 18 digs to lead St. Francis to a 25-13, 25-20, 25-20 sweep of Franklin in a Delta League girls' volleyball varsity match Tuesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 7-3 overall and open league play at 1-0.

The SFHS junior varsity and frosh teams also won in straight sets: the JV by scores of 26-24, 25-23, preceded by the frosh, with more decisive wins of 25-10, 25-13. All three teams prevailed in sweltering heat, with the 114-degree outside temperatures and lack of air conditioning resulting in sauna-like conditions indoors.

The Troubie varsity scored 30 kills, seven aces and 8.0 blocks for the match, meaning the remaining 30 points came on unforced Franklin errors. Junior opposite Caroline Foraker led the net defense with five stuffs. She added eight kills and 11 digs. Yet another 11th-grader, setter Kelsey Magley, recorded 27 assists.

No stats are available for JV and frosh matches.

All three St. Francis teams return home to host Oak Ridge for the last remaining non-league home match of the season. Start times are 4:30 for frosh, 5:30 for JV, 6:30 for varsity, with tickets available exclusively through GoFan at https://gofan.co/app/events/661275?schoolId=CA8032. Please note that the SFHS Delta League mobile pass is not valid for Thursday's tilt with the Trojans.
