St. Francis frosh wins 14th Stockton Classic title

St. Francis frosh wins 14th Stockton Classic title
STOCKTON, Calif. – St. Francis frosh volleyball beat area power Oak Ridge for the second time in as many weeks, this time in the title match of the 14th-annual Stockton Classic tournament at Lincoln High School.  The Trouabdours defeated the Trojans 28-26, 15-25, 15-8 for the tourney championship.

St. Francis improves to 16-3 for the season. The win over ORHS follows a September 8 win as part of a home tripleheader, which in turn avenged a straight-set loss at the Christine Craft Memorial Invitational to start the season – albeit with a split squad in that September visit.

The Troubies began the Stockton tourney with a comeback win over Archbishop Riordan, 21-25, 25-18 and 15-10. They followed with a sweep of Nevada Union (25-21, 25-19), then handed Acalanes only its second loss of the season with a 25-19, 25-17 victory. The win over the Miners also represented a rematch from the Craft tourney: St. Francis won the first meeting in split sets.

No individual stats were compiled during the matches.

The Stockton Classic, hosted by Edison High. consists of three Saturdays, one for each level. The JV/Sophomores edition takes place on September 24, while the Varsity Classic is held on October 8. The Freshman Classic was held at four schools: Lincoln, Franklin, Linden and host EHS.

All three St. Francis volleyball teams return to action at home against Elk Grove on Tuesday. The varsity squad was in action at its version of the Christine Craft tourney, while the junior varsity had a weekend off from competition. Match times from SFHS gym are 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30, which tickets available on GoFan.
