A former Division I collegiate swimmer and a coach with more than a quarter century of collegiate, prep and club experience, Brian Nabeta was selected to serve as interim head coach for the 2022 St. Francis High School's swimming season, announced director of athletics Mark McGreevy on January 19, 2022. Nabeta will return to the helm for the 2023 season.
 
"We are certainly excited to welcome Brian to Troubie swimming," said McGreevy. "His 25-plus years of experience as a coach and his stature in the Sacramento aquatics community will help us continue our mission of integrating competitive athletics as part of our students' overall physical, intellectual and spiritual growth."
 
Nabeta continues to as the chief executive officer and head coach for DART at Sacramento, which he co-founded in 2016 as a merger of the Davis Aquadarts and Arden Hills clubs, the latter of which he held posts of aquatics director and head coach since 1999. Nabeta has helmed such programs as Jesuit High and Golden Bear Swim Club, while holding head coaching duties at the Sierra Nevada Olympic Training, Zone and National Select Camps and USA Swimming National Diversity Camp. Nabeta also held a stint as an assistant with the USA Swimming Junior National Team. 
 
Overall, Nabeta has mentored swimmers who advanced to five Olympic Trials: 1996, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020.
 
Nabeta's first coaching stop was as an assistant at Cal, where he swam one season (1989) before transferring to Brigham Young. He swam three seasons with the Cougars, graduating in 1993 with a degree in history. Nabeta later added a master's degree from Concordia University of Irvine.
 
As an athlete, the El Cerrito product swam for Golden Bear then earned CSCAA Community College Swimmer of the Year honors while at Diablo Valley College before entering the D-I collegiate scene. He remains avid in Crossfit and holds coaching certifications for Crossfit Level 1, Kids, Olympic Lifting and Battle Rope disciplines. Nabeta resides in Sacramento with his wife Cherie. Their daughter Kai and son Kaleo are both DART swimmers while Kai swims collegiately for Hawai'i.
 
Nabeta succeeds Adrianna Contreras, his assistant for the DART Sacramento swim club. Contreras left the program last October to join the staff at UC Davis. However, Nabeta is no stranger to the St. Francis student body, having served as a campus supervisor during the 2020-21 school year.
