14 St. Francis Seniors Make Collegiate Commitments

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Catholic High School has 14 seniors from the Class of 2019 who have made commitments to play sports at NCAA schools across the country. They officially could sign with their schools starting Nov. 14. the original school celebration was postponed due to the ppor air quality. 

The list of signees includes six soccer players, four players from the softball program and two volleyball student-athletes, as well as a fencer signing with Duke University and an athlete in the sport of equestrian joining the Texas Christian University program.

Seniors Sam Chavez and Kathryn Kramer led the Troubadour volleyball program to the CIF NorCal regional semifinals and a Sac-Joaquin Section runner-up finish after winning the Delta League title. Chavez, who is signing with Cal State Monterey Bay, led the Delta League with 514 digs from her libero position, ranking 11th in the state in Division I. Kramer, who will is the first student-athlete in school history to sign with a beach program, will sign with the Texas Christian University beach volleyball program. Kramer had a career-best 320 kills as a senior, ranking fifth in the Delta League. Both were All-Delta League selections.

Soccer players Janae DeFazio (UCLA), Jackie Koerwitz (Miami (Fla.)), Lindsey Porter (UC Santa Barbara), A.J. Tanner (San Francisco State) and Elise Urkov (Army), as well as Troubadour basketball player and two-sport standout Ally Gage (Dominican (Ill.)) are signing to continue their careers on the soccer pitch at their respective schools.

The 2018-19 soccer season opens on Nov. 27 against Bella Vista, while Gage will open play with the basketball team on Nov. 29.

The softball program will play their season this spring led by Chloe Smith (Villanova), Sydney Littles (Cal State East Bay) Arden Hatch (Concordia (Ore.) and Bella Valentine (Azusa Pacific).

Senior Anneke Zegers will sign with Duke University to compete for the fencing program, while Makenzy Barnes will sign with the TCU Equestrian program.

The school's celebration event was rescheduled from Nov. 14 date that was postponed.
