Cross Country Takes Third Straight League Title

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The 17th-ranked St. Francis cross country team placed five in the top six and seven in the top 10 to win the Delta League title with 16 points. It was the third consecutive league title for the program and fourth for the school this fall (golf, tennis, volleyball).

"It feels really great and our team is very happy with what we did," said sophomore Cate Joaquin, the individual champion and All-Delta League qualifier. "The goal was to stay together as best we can and really accomplished that."

Joaquin was the first to cross the line over the Johnson Springview Park layout in 17:59. Senior Isabella Fauria, the 2018 champion, was second in 18:28, while sophomore Tatiana Cornejo was third in 18:39. Senior Haley Silva, a UC-Berkeley commit, was fourth in 18:41 and junior Hanna Hekkanen was sixth in 19:19 to complete the scoring top five.

St. Francis recognized their 15 seniors after the meet including 13 who ran in the meet including Grace Harrison (20th, 20:41), Elizabeth Cole (20:49, 22nd), Emma Hollenbach (28th, 21:14), Audrey Reyes (37th, 21:33), Nicole McBride (43rd, 21:52), Bridget Kemp (55th, 22:42), Marisa Petersen (61st, 23:31), Annika Remme (86th, 27:08), Sophia Breslau (90th, 28:27), Julianna Venegas (92nd, 29:08) and Alyssa Appel (93rd, 30:11). Skylar Strawn and Rose-Giblin Vance did not run.

"They mean a lot to me," said senior Audrey Reyes of her classmates. "They are literally are my sisters. They mean the world to me and they made me feel found when I was lost at the very beginning of high school."

The Frosh/Soph team also won the team title with the top seven in the top nine. Freshman Theone Diviagracia was the individual winner in 12:30. Sophomore Peyton Carson was third overall in 12:46 and Audrey Felsted was fourth in 12:49. The winning team was rounded out by Paige Quigley (6th, 12:54), Abbie Rexroad (7th, 12:54), Allison Williams (8th, 13:00) and Abby Page (9th, 13:01) over the two-mile course.

The varsity top seven all earned All-Delta League honors via their top 12 finish. It was the third honor for Fauria, Silva and Hekkanen. Joaquin and Cornejo earned all-league for the second time and freshmen Daphne Witherell and Simone DeBerry earned the honor for the first time.

Sophomore Claire Silva and seniors Grace Harrison and Elizabeth Cole also earned medals in the varsity race.

St. Francis is ranked No. 17 nationally in the latest DyeStat Rankings. The Troubadours will complete at the Sac-Joaquin Subsection Championships next week at Frogtown.
