Former Sac State Standout Weems to Join Cross and Track Staff

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Joy Weems begins her first season as an assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs.

"I'm excited to welcome Joy Weems to our cross country and track program," said Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Aaron Rios. "Joy will add tons of experience from her years at a high level high school and as a D1 collegiate athlete. Additionally, her enthusiasm for the sport and her teaching background will add great value to our running programs. St. Francis is extremely fortunate to have her and I'm confident Joy will help elevate our programs to new heights."

Weems, who is from Fair Oaks, had a successful four-year career running at Sacramento State, ranking among the school's all-time top 10 in 200 meters. She competed at the 2015 NCAA West Preliminary in 2015 in the 4x400-meter relay and helped the Hornets to the Big Sky Conference outdoor title.

She is a 2013 graduate of Del Campo High School where she competed for Aaron Rios in cross country and track and field. She qualified for the state meet in the 400 meters as a junior after winning the Capital Valley Conference title (also second in 200m). She won both events as a senior and placed second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. I meet and was fourth at the SJS Masters Meet.

She majored in kinesiology at Sacramento State, graduating in 2017.
