NAPA, Calif. – Fresh off a career-high performance in the program's varsity home opener against Franklin, sophomore Abigail Benavidez scored a total of 19 goals in five games for the junior varsity, helping St. Francis to a 3-2 record at Vintage's Crusher Classic tournament.
The weekend included a pair of sudden victories, with Benavidez hitting the game-winner on a five-meter penalty shot in a 9-8 victory over Redwood and Addison Hutchcraft burying a perimeter shot to lift the Troubadours to an 8-7 win over Terra Linda. St. Francis, which improved to 9-7 for the year, finished ninth in the tourney.
In fact, Benavidez was the leading SF scorer in all five games: five in Friday's 8-6 win over Rio Americano, four in a 6-5 loss to St. Mary's, two in a 14-4 loss to Campolindo, five in the victory over Redwood and a hat trick against Terra Linda.
Havana Sperber added a total of six goals for the weekend. Lydia Vlahos, also on loan from the Troubie varsity team, scored four goals with 10 assists for the weekend, including two scores against Terra Linda. Freshman goalkeeper Holland Sperber notched 11 saves each against Rio and St. Mary's.
The Troubies' JV squad rejoins its older varsity sisters for the program's regular-season home finale against Rio on Tuesday. Game times are 7 and 8 p.m., with seniors LK Holliday, Gauri Mathrakott and Ava Stimson to be honored prior to that 8 p.m. nightcap.
