Water Polo’s Zoe Sloat Named Player of the Year

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Zoe Sloat was named the St. Francis Water Polo Player of the Year at the team banquet on Dec. 5.

Sloat scored 27 goals to rank fourth on the team with 18 assists (second) and 35 steals (second) and led the Troubadour defensive efforts. She was named the GoTroubies.com Athlete of the Week after her performance at the Woodcreek Invitational.

Head Coach Emily Whalen was named the Delta League Coach of the Year in her first season.

Senior Caroline Wilkins was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year after scoring 49 points on 40 goals and nine assists. Goalie Claire McManus received the Defensive Player of the Year after making 193 saves in the cate. Bella Vierra was selected the Most Inspirational and Gauri Mathrakot was the Most Improved Player.

Sophomore Rory Peters was named the Junior Varsity Player of the Year with Ava Stimson and Isabella Honig taking home Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. Emma Houle was the Most Inspirational and Elin Perry was the Most Improved Player.

2019 Water Polo Team Highlights

  • St. Francis was selected to play in the CIF Northern California Division II Championships, earning a berth in the NorCals for the third consecutive season.
  • St. Francis was the No. 2 seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I bracket, posting wins over No. 7 Oak Ridge (13-6), No. 3 Granite Bay (9-4). The Troubadours lost to champion Davis 14-5 in the finals, reaching the final for the third consecutive season.
  • The Troubadours posted a 17-11 overall record. St. Francis was second in the Delta League with a 1-1 record. The team went 4-0 at the Grizzly Classic.
  • Senior Kendall Houck and junior Libby Slater were named to the Sac-Joaquin Section first team. Houck  led the team in goals (68), assists (28), points (96) and steals (47). Slater was second with 46 goals and third in assists (120). Zoe Sloat, Caroline Wilkins and Calire McManus were second-team choices.
  • St. Francis had six players named to the All-Delta League team, including Houck, Wilkins, Jacobsen, McManus, Sloat and Slater. It was the third honor for Houck and second for Sloat and Slater and first for Wilkins, McManus and Jacobsen.
  • Junior Alyssa Jacobsen (Sacramento) and Caroline Wilkins (Carmichael) were among five St. Francis water polo players named to the USA Water Polo Academic All-America team announced this week. Both were named to the team for the third consecutive season and received Outstanding Academic All-American status for receiving a 4.00 GPA or higher while competing in a National USA Water Polo event.Juniors Libby Slater (Davis). Emma Johnson (Sacramento) and Zoe Sloat (Sacramento) were also named to the team, earning the elite honor for the first time. Johnson and Sloat both were distinguished with the Outstanding status.
  • Kendall Houck (San Diego State), Alyssa Jacobsen (George Washington) and Bella Vierra (Wagner) signed to play polo in college.
