Alumna Kolokotronis to Join Water Polo Staff, Coach Junior Varsity

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Alumna Marisa Kolokotronis '13 returns to the St. Francis water polo program as a varsity assistant and the junior varsity head coach in 2019.

"I'm excited to be able to give back to a program that has given me so much," said Kolokotronis. "I am looking forward to our season and all that we will accomplish together!"

Kolokotronis played four seasons for Ivy League power Brown University. She earned ACWPC Honorable Mention All-America honors as a senior after leading the team in goals (69), points (97) and steals (33). She helped the Bears win the Collegiate Water Polo Association title as a senior. Overall, she scored 190 goals in her career.

"I've known Marisa since our early swim team days at Arden Hills," said Head Water Polo Coach Emily Whalen. "I am excited to have her on the staff because we were both taught the same water polo fundamentals through American River Water Polo club but have different collegiate water polo experiences. She has high honors academically and athletically and will be a great leader for the JV girls."

At St. Francis, she was a two-time All-American and two-time USA Water Polo Academic All-American. She was a four-year letter winner and co-captain. She was named the Offensive Player of the Year in 2023 and a three-time all-area selection. She participated in the US Olympic Development Program from 2010-12. She also was on the swim team for three seasons.

She was a four-time ACWPC Superior All-Academic honors and garnered Academic All-Ivy honors. Kolokotronis graduated from Brown in 2017 with a degree in Urban Studies. Kolokotronis has coached with the 12U girls team with American River Water Polo club from 2012-13 and led the Brown Water Polo Elite Summer Camp in 2015.

She currently works as a project manager for The Grupe Company.
