JV Volleyball Falls in Chris Craft Final, Win Streak Ends at 65

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity volleyball team lost in the final of the Chris Craft Invitational with a 2-0 loss to Oak Ridge. It was the first loss since the 2016 Chris Craft final, a streak of 65 consecutive wins.

The Troubadours defeated Granite Bay (3-0), River Valley (3-0) and Del Oro (2-0) to reach the final.

The loss dropped the team to 7-1 on the season. The team entered the season with 58 straight wins after posting a perfect 33-0 record last season under direction of alumna Taryn Wright Campbell '06.

St. Francis had the streak threatened twice this week after a three-set battle with Christian Brothers and comeback effort against Oak Ridge after falling behind 9-0 on the first set and 15­-5. They rallied to tie the match at 15 and were tied at five times down the stretch. Sophomore Alex Fritsch finished the match with a kill.

"It took a lot of team effort and they are still learning to communicate," said Campbell after the Oak Ridge game on Wednesday. "They are still learning that aspect of each other. But it takes that deep courage from every single person to step up."

St. Francis travels to Davis on Tuesday to start Delta League play. The have a 46-match league winning streak.
