Volleyball Named the Les Schwab Tires Sac-Joaquin Section Team of the Month

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team has been chosen the Les Schwab Tires Sac-Joaquin Section Team of the Month for October. The Troubadours were chosen based on a combination of performance, dedication in the classroom and service to the community.

"It is quite an honor," said Head Coach Alynn Wright, who is a member of the Section Hall of Fame. "The entire coaching staff works really hard day in and day out. To be recognized by the section is a tribute to the girls and their hard work both in the classroom and the gym."

As the Les Schwab Team of the Month award, SF will receive a commemorative banner for their schools and a $100 donation to their team from Les Schwab Tires. Winning teams will also be celebrated by their local Les Schwab Tires store and featured in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section digital media presences.

The varsity team went 32-2 in the regular season, winning the Delta League title for the third consecutive season and extending their league winning streak to 41 matches. SF started the season with a 29-0 mark, the longest streak to start a season in school history. The Troubadours won the Central California Classic in Merced with a perfect 8-0 record without dropping a set and took the Chris Craft Invitational title with a win over Presentation.

The Troubies finished sixth at the Stockton Invitational with win over St. Francis Mountain View and three-set losses to Palo Alto and Archbishop Mitty. Other top wins include then Bee No. 1 Rocklin, rival Christian Brothers and then Bee. No 2 Oak Ridge.

Junior Julia Zara with teammate Reyna Johnson started her own non-profit called Bags for the Brave to provide necessity bags for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy last spring.

St. Francis hosts Cosumnes Oaks at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the section semifinals.
