Volleyball Shuts Out Pleasant Grove 3-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The top-ranked St. Francis volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over Pleasant Grove Tuesday but were tested to remain undefeated in Delta League play.

"Pleasant Grove came to the gym with the intention of beating us," said Head Coach Alynn Wright. "They were very determined. They played some spectacular defense which forced us the same. We responded at times and others not as much. This team is pretty special because they figure out a way to when even when they are not playing their best."

The Troubadours took the first set 25-21 to start the match but the Eagles looked to tie the match, leading 20-15 in the second. Senior Alexa Edwards started the comeback, serving two straight aces and five points to tie the set.

"That was a really big momentum builder for us," said Wright. "I am happy that she is feeling much more confident with her serve."

SF rallied to take the second set 25-23 and finished off the match with a 25-15 third set.

"We practice (tight) scores every day," said Wright. "I tell the girls you are only as good as the team you practice against. We get to practice against a really good team day in and day out. Those that are not starting are crucial to the starters improving on a daily basis. I give a lot of kudos to them. Those are the moments they get us over that hump."

Edwards has a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Danica Nelson recorded 19 digs and junior Ellie Eichhorn notched 18 assists. Junior Chloe Henning added seven kills.

St. Francis returns to host Elk Grove on Thursday.
