SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Bee top-ranked St. Francis remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) over No. 5 Christian Brothers in the front of a sold out Holy Court crowd on Tuesday night.
"It feels great and it was a good team win," said senior Alexa Edwards, who led the team with 11 kills. "They did a really good job on defense but we were able to spread out our offense."
Edwards led the team with a double-double with 11 kills and 10 dogs. Junior Danica Nelson had 20 digs and junior Ellie Eichhorn recorded 22 assists.
"I thought they did a really good job playing within themselves in a very noisy gym," said Head Coach Alynn Wright, who improved to 9-2 all-time in Holy Court matchups. "It was not our best game but we had players step up. Monet came in and had some big momentum kills for us. Alexa played amazing. Lauren came in and did a nice job and the middles did a great job blocking. All in all, I was pleased."
The Junior Varsity team coached by alumna Taryn Wright Campbell '06 posted a 2-1 victory in the middle match.
"We played really well in the first set but we lost some of our communication in the second set," said Olivia Mlikotin. "We started the third set as a new team and washed everything out to play the way we were supposed to play."
After winning the first set, they lost the second and needed to seal it in the third set.
"It was really proud of the freshman because they got down and the came back, same with the JV," said Wright. "They have not experienced playing in front of a full crowd. In game 3 (JV) the took charge."
The Frosh team coached by alumnae Brooklyn Bueno '11 and Mary-Kate Schildmeyer '15 swept the Falcons to start the night.
"It felt good and I liked all the energy," said freshman Gabby Magao. "It was a fun experience."
St. Francis does it again Wednesday back at home to take on Oak Ridge.
