SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Freshman Cate Joaquin is the GoTroubies.com Athlete of the Week for week of Feb. 17-24, 2019.
Joaquin won the 1600 meters at the Pitman Distance Wars on Friday night. She helped the Troubies win the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 12:38.54, the fourth best time in St. Francis history.
Joaquin ended her first St. Francis cross country season with a personal record in the 5,000 meter with a time of 18:13.8 at the 2018 CIF State Cross Country Championship, won the Delta League Cross Country Championship and placed third the in Sac Joaquin Section Final. Joaquin started her Track and Field season by winning the 1600 at the Pitman Distance Wars with a 5:09.22.
Joaquin said, "I love running with my teammates, who I have very tight bonds with, everyday and I feel super honored to be a part of such a hard working and amazing team. Winning the 1600 meters on Friday was a great way to start my high school track career and has me excited for our season! I was most proud of how our whole team performed at this meet!"
Joaquin will be running in the Sacramento State High School Classic Invitational March 2 at the Hornet Stadium.
