Title: Assistant Varsity Tennis Coach

Mary Johnson joined the St. Francis coaching staff as an assistant coach with the tennis program for the 2016 season. She has helped the program to three consecutive Delta League titles, the 2017 Sac-Joaquin Section title and three CIF Northern California Regional appearances.

Johnson was the Head Coach at the University of Santa Clara from 1983-87 after three years as an assistant at UC-Berkeley from 1981-83. She played collegiately at UC Santa Barbara (1977-79) and UC Berkeley (1979-81), earning national rankings all four years.

She graduated from Berkeley in 1981 and earned her Master’s in physical education from Cal State Hayward in 1984. She received her Master’s in counseling from Santa Clara in 1988.

Johnson is a member of the C.K. McClatchy High School Hall of Fame and has played competitively since her coaching career, earning Top 10 USTA National Senior rankings in singles and doubles from 2003-09. She was a member of the 2008 National Championship Team 5.0 representing Gold River Tennis Club. She was named the Nor-Cal Senior Grand Prix Player of the Year in 2011.

She was recently a school counselor in the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District from 1993-2015 before her retirement.
