SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis and Christian Brothers battled to a 0-0 tie in the annual Holy Cup matchup between the schools at Hughes Stadium on Monday night.
"I thought it was very physical," said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. "The referees let them play. At times, we were very dangerous. But we need to get more shots off."
St. Francis had 15 shots in the game, including four by junior Grace Barger, but none found the net.
"Playing Christian Brothers is always a rivalry game," said Barger, who had a team-best five steals. "Everyone is always excited. We had a lot of opportunities. We just really could not finish them today."
St. Francis owns an 11-0-3 all-time record against the Falcons, including a 0-0 tie in 2017.
"It is Holy Cup," said Robinson. "It is always going to be intense, physical and a little crazy. We had great fan support. It was fantastic. We created our own environment, which was really fun. With the support, it was super fun to play."
Kimberly Riley and Gigi Koerwitz combined in the goal to post the shutout against the Falcons.
St. Francis and Christian Brothers are scheduled to play again on Saturday in the Rocklin Invitational at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The Troubies open up with Whitney at 8:00 a.m. on Friday and play aguna Creek at 2 p.m.
