Lacrosse Posts Comeback Win on Golden Goal on Senior Night

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Trailing 9-4 at the half, the St. Francis lacrosse team rebounded after celebratory senior celebration in the second half to post a 15-14 win over Bella Vista Friday night.

"It feels really good," said Gorona. "It was a team win. The whole team set it up. It was not my drive, I was just the finisher in the last second."

The Troubadours trailed the entire first half, falling behind by five at the half as Bella Vista tried to spoil the senior night game. After the team recognized seniors Jade Borg and Rose Conlin at halftime, the team rebounded to out-score BV 10-5 in the second half.

"We talked about and (the way we were playing) was not us," said Gorona. We were a better team and had to pick up the intensity. We had a time out. We changed the intensity and picked it up."

The Troubies had two shots in the final minutes to win the game in regulation but both sailed high, forcing a three-minute golden goal overtime period with the first score winning.

"We came out with nothing the tank but we stepped it up in the second half to win," said Borg. "We changed our mental game and came together to work as a team."

St. Francis secured the opening draw in overtime and Gorona scored to end the game and complete the comeback.

"I love our seniors and to honor like this and come out with a win feels really good," said Gonona.

St. Francis (10-2) completed the regular season at Davis on March 26 after spring break. St. Francis has secured a berth Sacramento Valley Lacrosse League playoffs with final seeding determined by the result against the Blue Devils.

The Troubies lost to Oak Ridge on Thursday 12-6.
