Golf Advances to Sac-Joaquin Section Masters

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior Nashla Aguero shot a team-best six over par 78 to lead the St. Francis golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Division Tournament on Monday at Timber Creek Golf Course.

"It was really good today," said Aguero, who posted her second-best high school round. "I saved a lot of strokes with my putting and I was hitting my driver really far. Overall, the conditions were amazing and I had a really good day."

Aguero, who started on the 18th hole in the shotgun format, posted a double bogey on her first hole. She went on to record five pars on the front nine to post a 40. She then went even par over the final eight holes with two birdies and two bogeys.

"I made a lot of short putts and was reading them correctly today," said Aguero, who posted a career-best 75 as a sophomore in the center match.

Senior Ceci Fletcher posted an 81 to rank second on the team. Juniors Madeline Lee and Haanya Niazi carded rounds of 90 and Troubadours counted Amanda Siy's 99 to post a 438 team score.

Granite Bay won the team title with a 377 and Oak Ridge was second with a 407. Rocklin was third overall with a 416. The top six teams advance to the Masters event in Stockton next week.

"We expect it to be windy and challenging," said Aguero. "I think we will get through it."

Masters will be held at the Reserve as Spanos Park with a 9 a.m. shot gun start.
