Golf Wins Delta League Center Behind Niazi

RANCHO MURIETA, Calif. – Junior Haanya Niazi shot a nine-over par 81 to finish tops on the team and third overall in the first Delta League Center match at the Rancho Murieta South course on Tuesday.

"I feel pretty good about it but I made up for it with my approach shots," said Niazi. "I am pretty proud of that. We finished first in the league so that feel pretty great and was a good way to start off the year. I am excited to see who this year goes."

St. Francis shot a 436 team score to place first among six Delta League teams. Pleasant Grove was second at 455 and Franklin was third with a 462.

Niazi was third overall behind Davis' Alyssa Yee, who posted a one-under par 71, and Sadia Sadiq of Pleasant Grove, who posted a 78. The 81 was her second-best career high school round.

"It feels amazing (to finish third overall)," said Niazi. "The two scores that beat me were in the 70s so I applaud them for that. It was a great round for them."

Senior Ceci Fletcher carded an 86 for the Troubadours, placing seventh overall and second on the team. Senior Nashla Aguero and freshman Julia Geer both posted rounds of 89. It was the first career match for Geer.

"It felt really good and I was able to get a good score," said Geer. "It was great to contribute to my team winning and I hope I can do it again."

Junior Madeline Lee was the fifth score for the team with a 91 and senior Amanda Sy had a 98.

St. Francis returns to the course on Wednesday for the first Delta League dual match against Franklin at the Haggin Oaks Arden Arcade course at 3 p.m.
