Troubie hoop drops pair at top-ranked Folsom

FOLSOM, Calif. – Junior Lexi London and sophomore Audrey Bashore each scored 11 points while sophomore Natalia Zitelli sparked the defense with four steals, but St. Francis fell by an 80-37 final at Folsom in the varsity nightcap of a Sierra Foothill League girls' basketball doubleheader Tuesday night.

The Troubadours dropped their third straight game to move to 9-11 overall, 3-3 in league play. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the Sac-Joaquin Section by MaxPreps, improves to 15-3 for the year with a 5-0 SFL mark.

St. Francis trailed by a 24-9 margin after just the first period, but pulled within 10 in the first minute of the second frame, thanks to a London three-pointer and Tayli Paeu-Lindgren layup. However, the Troubies never cut the deficit to single digits, eventually falling to a 50-26 margin by the break and a 72-29 hole through 24 minutes.

Paeu-Lindgren finished with six points and six rebounds. St. Francis also went the majority of the game without standout point guard Sydney Teoh, who left the game due to injury with a minute left in the first period.

Overall, the Troubies shot just 30.2 percent from the floor (13-for-43) and committed 27 turnovers.

St. Francis junior varsity lost to an even more dominant Folsom program by a 66-20 final. Freshman Emmy Cheatham finished with 10 points, thanks to three-pointers in each of the first and third frames; while Catherine Gustafson and Keanna Daneshvar netted six and four points, respectively.

The Troubie jayvees move to 6-13 for the season, in contrast to the Bulldogs' glittering 20-1 record.

JV returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday in a road game at Davis, while varsity co-hosts the Blue Devils as part of a doubleheader at Jesuit on Friday. SF tips off at 5:30 in the varsity-only twinbill, with the Marauders scheduled for 7 p.m.
