SACRAMENTO, Calif - Softball senior Chloe Smith was named the GoTroubies.com Athlete of the Week for the week of April 15-28.
Smith hit 14-for-25 with a batting average of .560 in a total of seven games, including six in the NorCal Classic Tournament in Tracy. Smith hit a triple, two home runs, and four doubles to help send the team to finals of the tournament. Over the two week period, Smith scored eight runs and knocked in 12 teammates.
"It was a big confidence boost for the team, which I think made us realize that, even though we are a young team, we are a great team and have the ability to win championships this year," said Smith. "It has also brought us closer together, as we continue to build our confidence in each other and play more as a team rather than individuals."
Overall this season, Smith has had 35 hits with 19 runs and knocked in 28 teammates in. Her season batting average is .530 with an on base percentage of .557 in her senior season.
Smith has signed to play at Villanova next year.
"It's a bittersweet feeling as the season comes closer to an end," said Smith. I'm excited for school to end and to begin my next chapter in education and softball at Villanova University; however, I am sad that it's my last season playing with all of these girls. I have built some really strong relationships due to softball and even though we are all going our separate ways, I know we will all stay in contact and continue to play our best in college."
The St. Francis softball team will play Pleasant Grove on May 1 at 4 p.m..
