Softball Wins Two at NorCal Classic

TRACY, Calif. – Seniors Bella Valentine and Chloe Smith each had four runs batted in as St. Francis posted a 10-7 win over West High to complete the first day of the NorCal Classic in Tracy 2-0.

The Troubadours fell behind 3-0 but got back in the game in the bottom of the third with three straight doubles by Sage Davis, Haley Kim and Smith to tie the game at 3. Valentine knocked in Smith for a 4-3 lead.

Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth to extend a two-out rally followed by a Valentine double to clear the bases. SF added two runs to push the lead to 10-4.

Senior Caitlin Caldwell pitched into the sixth inning, finishing with a line that had seven runs (five earned) on nine hits with seven strikeouts. Senior Arden Hatch relieved in the seventh to close out the win.

In the opener on Friday, Chloe Smith went 3-for-3 with two RBI on a double and home run to pace the offense. Hatch led the team on the mound, allowing two runs (0 earned) on three hits with seven strikeouts.

St. Francis plays West High at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
