Softball Defeats Pleasant Grove 7-4

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Chloe Smith had a bases clearing double in the second inning to break open a close game in a 7-4 win over Pleasant Grove on Friday at Schuster Field.

Smith's double highlighted a four-run second inning to give St. Francis a 5-1 lead in the game. Starting pitcher Hope Jenkins allowed three runs on four hits over 4.1 innings and senior Caitlin Caldwell added 2.2 scoreless innings in relief in the winning effort.

SF benefited from a pair of errors and a single by Hope Jenkins to load the bases in the second. Amy Abueg walked in a run before Smith's clearing double.

Pleasant Grove rallied for two runs in the fifth, kocking out Jenkins but Caldwell shut down the rally and preserved the win.

St. Francis plays three straight road games starting with Elk Grove on WednesdAY.
