2023 SPRING SPORTS TRYOUTS - STEP 1: REGISTER ON FINAL FORMS!

St. Francis sponsors five interscholastic sports in the spring: lacrosse, softball, swimming, diving, and track & field. Lacrosse and softball each consist of a varsity and JV program. Swimming, diving and track & field often have varsity and JV events at meets, but are considered one team each. To get the most up-to-date information on tryouts, parents must register their daughter for the appropriate sport on FinalForms. This is the best, and sometimes only way to ensure timely and accurate information regarding tryouts, practices, schedule changes and team-specific events.

The state mandates student-athletes to have a comprehensive physical form filled out each year before being allowed to try out, practice, and compete in sports at the high school level. Please note that St. Francis will only give clearance to student-athletes that turn in a completed St. Francis High School Preparticipation Physical Form. NO EXCEPTIONS. Parents can upload a completed physical form to FinalForms or drop off a hard copy to the front office during normal business hours. For more information about sports physicals, contact assistant athletics director Kelly Ketcham

Any athletes competing in basketball or soccer will be permitted to complete their seasons, and will be granted a fair opportunity to try out for a spring sports team. However, they could contact the varsity head coach to notify them of such status.

SPRING SPORTS

Track & field and softball held interest/informational meetings about their respective sports in November. However, it is not too late to sign up for those sports. Head to FinalForms and register, and/or contact head coaches Kevin Warren (softball) or Chad Worthen (track & field) with any questions about dates and details.

Lacrosse held its interest meeting on Thursday, January 11. This is a cut sport for varsity and generally a non-cut sport for JV unless the interest overwhelms the roster sizes. If you are new to the sport, many of your questions – e.g. equipment needs – can be addressed in this meeting. Dubbed "the fastest sport on two feet," lacrosse is an excellent opportunity for players already versed in soccer, basketball or hockey (ice or field), as many of the skills translate well from those sports.

Swimming consists of two non-cut programs: Gold and Red. The Gold squad is the competitive team that practices 4-5 days a week and competes in meets, including the league, section and state championships. The Red squad practices two days per week and does not compete in meet. There are no requirements for skill level or expertise for either squad, it just comes down to the level of commitment desired by the individual. The roster that appears here on GoTroubies.com is the Gold team. Head coach Brian Nabeta will host the first day of practice and an overall program meeting on February 5 (5 p.m. for Gold, 6:45 for Red).

Diving is another no-cut sport, with the team roster ranging from beginners to experienced club divers. Athletes with backgrounds in dance or gymnastics will find their skills in those disciplines easily translating to the boards. Head coach Dede Crayne will hold her first day of tryouts at American River College on February 12 at 3:30 p.m.. Athletes need to bring a $25 payment for insurance.

Students or parents who missed any of these meetings can obtain any information or direct questions to the head varsity coach for each sport. The coach emails are available on the staff directory on this website: https://gotroubies.com/information/directory/index

And again... you must register for the sport on FinalForms! This will add you to the list for all updates and communications regarding tryouts.
