Mark McGreevy is in his eighth year as the Athletic Director at St. Francis Catholic High School.

He oversees a 12-sport, 27-level athletic program that has won 31 league titles and 16 Sac-Joaquin Section titles in his tenure, while 168 Troubadours signed or committed to play collegiate sports.

The Troubadours won the 2018-19 Sac-Joaquin Section Commissioner’s Cup as the top girls program in the area and have captured back-to-back Delta League All-Sports titles.

Under McGreevy, St. Francis has launched its partnerships with Adidas to be the official apparel brand for the school and its 500-plus student-athletes, as well it’s a Sports Ministry program with SportsLeader. The school has also improved facilities with the Sport Court installation in the National Guard Armory in the summer of 2018 and via a partnership with Cristo Rey High School to provide facilities for the soccer and lacrosse programs. Improvements in facilities also include negotiating the move of tennis to Rio del Oro Racquet Club from Natomas and track and field to Jesuit High School. The department also launched a new dedicated website in October 2018.

The Riverside, Calif., native has more than 25 years of experience in education in both the high school and collegiate settings, serving in varying roles ranging from coach, teacher, counselor, principal and athletic director.

McGreevy came to St. Francis from NCAA Division I UC Riverside where he was the director of athletics academic services for the Highlanders. He coordinated the academic supervision of more than 300 student-athletes to meet their academic goals, maintain their eligibility and stay on track for graduation. He also coordinated initial and continual eligibility and served as the department liaison with the faculty and student affairs departments across campus.

He was on the UCR staff for seven years after returning to the school in July 2005 as the director of student-athlete services. He also had a two-year stint at Saint Martin’s University (Wash.), serving as the school’s director of NCAA compliance and sports information director from 2003-05.

McGreevy first worked at UCR from 2001-02 as a graduate intern in the Compliance Office while completing his master of science degree in education with an emphasis on sports leadership from California Baptist University. He then was named the director of athletics at CEDU High School in Running Springs, Calif., where he also coached the boys varsity basketball and created and coached the first sports program for girls in school history – the girls varsity volleyball program. 

McGreevy, 50, graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in geography. After graduation, he taught at a variety of schools in San Diego, Murrieta Valley, and Lake Elsinore, including an initial two years at CEDU before volunteering for a two-year post with the Lay Mission Helpers of the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Stationed in Pago Pago, American Samoa, McGreevy was principal of Marist College Preparatory High School from 1998-2000. Upon his return stateside, McGreevy spent one year in professional baseball as the assistant director of operations for the Triple-A Pacific Coast League assisting President Branch Rickey.

An active member in his local community, McGreevy currently participates in prison ministry with the Catholic Chaplain programs at Folsom State Prison, assisting with the inmate-led intercessionary prayer group. He worked with UCR Guardian Scholars, a group providing a network of support for college students emancipated from the foster care system. While in Washington state, he was selected for Leadership Thurston County, a program sponsored by the chamber of commerce, and was a presidential appointee to the Diversity and Equity Team at Saint Martin’s University. He also served as a mentor to first-generation college students in the Washington Achiever Scholars Program.

McGreevy is a graduate of Riverside’s Notre Dame High School, lettering in basketball and track and field. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading, listening to music, exercising, and traveling. He is a member of the Sacrament Sunds Australian Rules Football Club, playing in local, regional and national competitions from 2013-17, including as a member of the Division 3 National Championship team in 3014.

He and his wife, Cassy, who is the school’s Director of Student Activities, live in Davis with their three daughters: Claire ‘19, Maggie ‘21, and Tess ‘23.
