Mission Statement

The purpose of the SAAC is to represent the voice of student-athletes at St. Francis Catholic High School.

Goals

• Provide efficient communication with athletics department administration, coaches, staff, faculty and student-athletes concerning SAAC activities.
• Create awareness of all programs available within the athletics department.
• Encourage participation in all athletics department programs.
• Support student-athletes wanting to achieve honor roll status by promoting tools available at St. Francis.
• Identify and support issues specific to student-athletes.
• Encourage a sense of community among student-athletes by sponsoring at least one community service project a year.

Membership Qualifications & Responsibilities

SAAC representatives are chosen by coaches of their respective teams. Each varsity sport will have one representative, plus there will be three at-large reps on the committee as selected by Google Forms vote. Representatives serve as liaisons between SAC and their respective teams, and will report information from meetings to their teams year-round, including the offseason. Such information should be disseminated through school email, Google Docs, Drive or Chat. The term of service is at least two semesters.

For larger sports (50-plus total athletes), coaches may nominate multiple candidates per seat, then allow team members to vote for the sport representative via Google Forms. These votes should take place in April prior the school year in question.

• SAAC members will attend a fall retreat (approximately two hours)
• A maximum of three unexcused absences will be permitted. Excused absences include competition, practice, illness, family emergencies, or meetings with coaches/counselors/staff/faculty.
• SAAC members should submit items for the next meeting’s agenda at least one week prior to that meeting.
• Each SAAC representative must be a current athlete in her respective sport for the school year in question.
• The St. Francis High athletics department reserves the right to impose minima for grade-point average and/or service hours that SAAC representatives must maintain to retain their seat. If a SAAC rep does not meet these requirements, she will be asked to resign as a member, and the sport’s coach will appoint a new member.

Officers

Officers will be selected at the last SAAC meeting of the school year. New representatives (for the subsequent school year) must attend this meeting.

• President: must be a senior who served as a SAAC rep for at least one previous year.
• Vice President: may be a junior or senior who has served as a SAAC rep for at least one previous year.
• Secretary: available to any SAAC representative. Duties include keeping meeting notes (minutes), documenting suggestions and ideas from SAAC members, sharing this information via Google Docs.
• DEI Representative: one representative for each of the fall, winter and spring seasons, as voted by the student-athletes from the corresponding season. This individual will lead SAAC for all issues pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion.
